DENTAL CROWNS AND BRIDGES
Dental crowns are tooth protecting constructions, which surround the tooth on all sides similar to a cap or a crown and are fixed to the tooth by means of cementing. Before that the tooth should be preparated abraded in the shape of the so called tooth – body, which means that it should be given a slight cone shape to get enough space for locating the lining of the coming crown. The crown should look completely like the nature tooth by its colour and shape. The crowns are applied to teeth which are decayed by caries in such a degree that can not be filled or they possess very weak walls and the danger of fissures occurring when chewing is very big. In this way teeth can be protected and be given back their function. At the same time aesthetic corrections of teeth can be made particularly if they are of bad colour, shape or crooked.
Dental Bridges are fixed prosthetic constructions which replace the lost tooth. Every bridge is fixed to the natural teeth which define the toothless space and help to support and carry pieces that replace the lost natural teeth. The bridges enable the normal functioning and chewing and fix the line of the teeth in the mouth, so that there are no displacements of neighboring teeth towards the empty space. They also correct the life which is often disarranged where there are no teeth. In that way an aesthetic correction of teeth line is made resulting in obtaining an ideal tooth are. To sum up, the function of the bridges is not only of an aesthetic importance and a compensation for the lost natural teeth, but they also have a preventional and functional role which our dentists always emphasize when we advice our patients to have the bridges fixed. The procedure of modeling the bridges has several phases. In the first one, the teeth are prepared in the cone shape under local anesthesia as the procedure is painful, and then the print is taken. On the basis of the print the technician makes a model which is the basis for constructing the bridge. We make metal ceramic bridges as a standard. It means that the bridge has a metal foundation of nickel – chrome alloy which provides its firmness. During the second phase or visit the metal foundation of the bridge is _____ as it has to be ideally adapted to the carrying and the neighboring teeth. After that the porcelain is put over it. The colour and the shine of the porcelain teeth have to resemble fully the colour and the shine of the natural teeth. Lastly, during the third visit of the patient, the dentist should test the whole construction in the mouth once again. If the bridge is placed nicely in the mouth and the teeth are of good colour and shape, then the bridge is cemented.
